3D projectors
QED uses the Christie Mirage HD18 active 3D 3-chip DLP HD projectors to deliver the best 3D visuals for live events. At 18,000 ANSI lumens the Mirage HD18 is the brightest and most easily deployable active 3D projector on the market. By generating such a high light output it overcomes the massive light loss from which all 3D projection systems suffer - the total light reduction with 3D projection can be anything up to 85% which is why extremely bright projectors are always required for a high quality 3D viewing experience.
3D glasses
The XpanD X101 active 3D glasses are specifically designed for use in cinemas and live events. They are synchronised to the projection system via infrared and are fully encrypted to ensure interference-free continuous performance. These battery powered glasses provide up to 250 hours of continuous use, automatically switching on and off according to the presence the infrared signal in order to preserve battery life. They synchronise to the emission system within just one second, ensuring a rapid transition between 3D and 2D content. The lack of a physical switch eliminates the possibility of user error and their rugged design makes the X101s the most suitable active 3D glasses for live events.
3D processing / switching
To seamlessly incorporate content into any show high quality 3D processing and switching is required. Christie’s Spyder X20 is at the heart of QED’s active 3D projection system, taking 3D beyond cinema and opening up a whole new world of possibilities without imposing creative or technical restrictions. It allows 3D material to be seamlessly mixed with 2D content and delivers the 3D signal to the projection system. QED was the first company in the world to invest in the Spyder X20 with stereoscopic processing.
3D content & source playback
Because 3D content can be created and played back in a variety of ways (line-by-line, side-by-side, checkerboard, top/bottom, frame packing, frame sequential) QED offers a variety of source playback options including dedicated 3D media servers and synchronised video players as well as interfacing for live 3D-gaming consoles. 3D content can also now be designed using a range of 3D plug-ins for PowerPoint, the world’s most common presentation software. In spite of all the recent technical advancements the key to success more than ever relies upon creative talent to realise its full potential and to design 3D content that can deliver what 2D is simply unable to do.
