UWS Processing
QED provides a range of UltraWideScreen processing options to suit all applications - the precise system and configuration varies according to how many inputs and outputs are required and the number of individual sources that need to be displayed on the screen simultaneously. Currently the most sophisticated and flexible solution is the Christie Spyder X20 - its unique architecture provides for a resolution and video format independent environment with a 20 megapixel bandwidth capability. The Spyder X20 enables edge-blending, windowing, mixing and scaling of any source format and then quickly and easily routes the signals to any projector array.

With its integrated source monitoring the X20 enables simultaneous, real-time, full frame rate monitoring of all inputs. Not only can Spyder handle all input and output signal requirements but it can also be programmed to control other elements of the show – playback sources can be perfectly synchronised with Spyder’s in-built effects to ensure seamless transitions and glitch-free operation.

Projectors
Only fully matched projectors will do justice to the stunning output of any UWS system, as any differences between the projectors will become highly evident when they are blended to become one high resolution canvas. For the very highest quality QED always recommends the use of 3-chip DLP projectors, in particular the Christie HD8K, HD12K and HD18K with unrivalled colour purity delivered by their high brightness Xenon lamps. They can all be perfectly matched for colour, contrast and brightness, and they also have internal edge-blending and geometric correction. The Christie Twist module enables images to be geometrically corrected when projecting onto curved UltraWideScreens or where the screen surface is uneven.

UWS Projection Screens
Either front or rear projection screens can be used for UltraWideScreen projection. Front projection is superior because it delivers higher brightness without restrictions on viewing angles, and it is also cheaper due to the lower cost of the screen material. QED stocks a variety of both front and rear projection UltraWideScreens and will advise on the most appropriate screen system and the most suitable size for each application.

Distribution & Control
QED’s fibre systems have been specially developed to meet the needs of the live events industry for reliable, high quality transmission of High Definition digital video signals. QED’s ruggedized projector fibre systems can deliver multiple projectors with high resolution DVI signals and individual Ethernet control over just one 4 or 12-way miniature fibre multi-core cable. This enables quick and easy installation of UltraWideScreen systems and provides convenient control over the projectors as well as operation of the advanced software for blending and fine geometric correction.
