VISIT TO BRITAIN JULY 1996
This visit to Britain was organised by The Network of Buddhist Organisations and the Buddhist Society and as a result of this unique collaboration, His Holiness visited both Manchester and London for a series of Buddhist teachings.
THE FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS
This forms the heart of the Buddha’s teachings. Around 2500 years ago the Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India. At the request of his small group of followers, he then went to the Deer park in Samath to give his first teachings, which were on the Four Noble Truths.
The truth of suffering: the unsatisfactory nature of life in all its guises
The causes of this suffering: our mistaken views and misapprehensions
The cessation of suffering: true peace of mind
The path leading to cessation: the understanding by which true peace of mind is reached
The teachings of the Four Noble Truths took place at The Barbican Centre, London from the 17 - 18 July 1996.
