Projection Mapping

Projectors
The Christie WU20K-J, HD18K and S+20K 3-chip DLP projectors are the most preferred choice for the majority of projection mapping applications, providing the highest brightness in an incredible lightweight and flexible chassis. They can also be mounted in any orientation in order to utilise the light output of every pixel and to provide extra projection coverage. The Christie Twist module enables quick and easy precision geometric correction so that projectors can be overlaid for increased brightness.
Playback
Apart from extremely bright projectors the two other key technical elements to successful projection mapping are the accuracy of the content creation and flexibility of the delivery system. There is often the need to adjust the content or utilise real-time geometric correction as any slight variations between the computer model, the real-life objects and the projector placements can become exaggerated when projecting at large scale. Advanced geometric correction is usually best handled by software within the source playback device which is why QED provides a range of media server solutions to suit each application. Media servers can be synchronised to extend the total number of system outputs to deliver ultra high resolutions.
Switching/Scaling
Switching is often required in order to switch between primary and back-up source machines, with the choice of switcher being appropriate to the number of inputs provided by the source and the type of switch required. To achieve the best clarity, colour and precision for projection mapping then DVI is always the preferred video signal type, and seamless switching is always desirable.
Distribution/Control
If the sources are located near to the projection system then standard DVI cables of between 1m and 3m can usually be connected to the source when outputting an HD signal, however for longer distances DVI fibre optic distribution is usually required. QED’s fibre optic system is ruggedized for use in extreme conditions and enables twin DVI signals and network control to be supplied to each projector via one miniature fibre cable.
